I would say that's a very good sign. This may mean that they thought a lot about asking you. That gift you gave them was probably important and made them feel good. Now, this doesn't mean at all that everything is going to be perfect, but it seems like a green flag to me.
There are a lot of different ways to interpret the actions of a man who gives you a gift. It could be seen as a sign of love and appreciation, or it could be seen as an attempt to buy your affection. To read a book that someone has given you is to show them that you care about their world and to find validity in their recommendation. Likewise, to undertake that adventure into someone else's world is to expand your own.
